Information
This driver has been designed to use on BeOS 5 the VIA Technologies VT3043 "Rhine I" and VT86C100A "Rhine II" Fast Ethernet Controller. Which include the following NICs:

  • Hawking Technologies PN102TX
  • D-Link DFE-530TX
  • AOpen/Acer ALN-320
  • This driver has been made using the VT86C100A Data Sheet provided by VIA Technologies. The VT86C100A data sheet is included integrally with the source files (in PDF format).

    Requirement

  • Pentium Based Computer
  • VIA Rhine Based Ethernet Card
  • BeOS 5 Personal or Pro Edition
  • For Now, BeIDE Installed, but binary distribution comming soon.
  • Installation

  • Ensure that you have BeIDE installed.
  • Compile and Link the net server add-on and the kernel driver.
  • Execute the file "install-script" included in each folder in a terminal window.
  • Reboot your machine.
  • Configure your network.
  • Enjoy.
  • What has been Tested
    Due to limited resources, I could only test the following configuration:

  • D-Link DFE 530TX
  • 10BaseT Half-Duplex Network
  • 1 Processor and 2 Processors Pentium III Computers
  • BeOS 5 Personal Edition (with no patches installed)
  • System Crashes
    If you encounter system crashes at boot-up, in order to boot your computer, press the space bar when BeOS is loading (before the atom gets colored). Go in safe mode option, and check the "Disable User Add-On" and continue boot your system.

  • The exact card model and name. (ie. D-Link DFE-530TX).
  • The Network Speed (10BaseT or 100BaseT)
  • The Network Mode (Half-Duplex or Full-Duplex) (Generally Half-Duplex)
  • CPU Type (ie. Pentium III)
  • CPU Count (Generally 1 for common user.)
  • BIOS Name, Model and Version (ie. ASUS P2B-DS Revision 1012)
  • Version of BeOS
  • Patches that you have installed on BeOS
  • Updates
