Creating Archives

When you select an option to create a new archive, a file requester will be opened, where you can select the path and type of your archive.
Compared to a standard file requester this one offers an additional popup menu just above the text view where you can type the name of your archive. This menu offers a list of all currently supported archive types you can chose from. The default archiver can be configured in the General Settings window.
Even if neither BeOS nor Squeezer impose any restriction on the name of your archive file, it's recommended that you use a standard extension especially if you plan to move the archive on other platforms, as most systems use the file extension to recognize its type:
  • .zip for Zip archives.
  • .tar for Tar archives.
  • .gz for GZip archives.
  • .tar.gz or .tgz for Tar GZip archives.
  • .tar.bz2 or .tbz2 for Tar BZip2 archives.
  • .rar for Rar archives.
  • .lha ot .lzh for Lha archives.
