Snoopy: Templates

What're templates?

Templates allow the end user to to customise the way Snoopy views attributes on a MIME type by MIME type basis. It really transforms Snoopy from an attribute viewer into a one-stop interface for attribute based information.

At least in my not so humble, ever biased opinion ;)

Templates

First of all, start the Snoopy Preflet and select "Templates" from the menu on the left.

Template View

Click on the drop down menu and select "Add New" - this is your interface to adding a groups of templates

Adding a new set of templates

After clicking "Add New" a new window will pop up with a list of MIME types

MIME Types

From here you can select a new supertype (Application, text, etc) from the menu, which will repopulate the main view of the MIME window

MIME Super Types

We're going to create a template for Person files. So select that from the list and click "Create"

Selecting a MIME type

After you click "Create" the MIME window will be dismissed and you can begin creating the Templates for that MIME type

Ready to create Templates!

Click in the main view and press the "Insert" key. You'll be presented with an input control to enter the name of the template. Go ahead and name your template. It doesn't matter what you name it, it's only as a label

Creating a new Template

Once you've entered the name of the Template and pressed "Tab"/ "Enter", select the Template you just created and press "Control" - "Insert", a new control will be entered under the selected Template

Adding attributes to a Template

Enter the attribute name (Remember, this is the internal name, eg. "META:nickname"). And repeat the process for as many attributes and templates as you wish.

Done!

The order the Templates are shown in the list view is the order they will be shown in Snoopy. To reorder them, click on a Template and drag it to the new position

Reordering Templates...

And release! The Template will be moved to it's new position.

Templates reordered!

Note: You can copy templates (and attributes) by holding the "Control" key while dragging.

And finally, the results!
